i have a ipod nano for about 2 years now and i also have a ipod dock it is the best thing i have ever been given but the other day my ipod just had a black screen and cant turn it on it just stays black so if anyone knows what to do plz contact me

my ipod 3rd generation won't charge or turnon. When I connect it to my computer the apple appears and that is it. I tried resetting it with menu and select but at the same time but that just causes the screen to flash the apple it appears and dissapears all the while the screen is dim. Can anyone help any suggestions? when i unplug the ipod there is nothing on the screen no matter what i press
